VxWorks is the world leading hard Real Time operating system running on many different H/W architectures. Workbench is the new development environment for vxWorks 6.x (can also be applied to VxWorks 5.5 instead of Tornado). VxWorks 6 adds  an,  optional, layer of PROCESSes (RTP – Real Time Process) and a more comprehensive Memory Management to VxWorks 5.  The bundling of the standard editions of VxWorks and Workbench is called GPP (General Purpose Platform). 

 Currently, many programmers get acquainted with them on the job only. This may lead to long learning curves and, on top of that, inadequate usage and spurious and bulky developments that sometimes look like “inventing the square wheel”.   Using vxWorks adequately reduces the time and effort in bringing a quality product to the market. Adequate usage will also serve in reducing the effort in migrating to/from VxWorks (the RT principles covered in the class are relevant to other RT Operating Systems too). The end results of the class are direct benefits for the organization and the participants.

The following topics will be discussed  in short (if applicable to the participants):
•          Blocking on Multi Objects (Events with Semaphores and/or Message Queues)
•          Blocking on several I/O devices - The select() function
•          Advanced Debugging/Verification Tools: the System viewer etc.
 
A subset of the topics can be tailored for specific classes (e.g. a class that concentrates on debugging)
The course has hands-on labs for better utilizing the material, and bringing it to a live experience. The lab is either with real H/W boards or with the vxSim simulator.
A 5 day, onsite,   tailored class is also available with more extensive labs and/or more specific topics.
After the course, the participant will be able to utilize the Workbench to develop efficient vxWorks based projects.
